A ritual of release, reflection, and renewal
We are living in a time of transformative change. While we look with hope to the future and its promise, it is sometimes difficult to let go of what we leave behind. Inspired by Dr. Angelina’s The Burning Project, the Effigy Ritual is centered around the concept of moving from release to transformation, and ultimately renewal.
Participants are invited to reflect on emotional patterns, beliefs, fears, grief, or experiences they may be ready to release as they move into a new chapter of life. Through writing, symbolic objects, guided reflection, artmaking, and ceremonial ritual, the experience becomes a way of acknowledging what has been carried emotionally and consciously choosing what may no longer belong in the next season of life.
The ritual creates space for intention, emotional release, and reconnection to personal meaning and direction. These are spaces for reflection, emotional honesty, creativity, healing, and transformation.
At the center of the experience is the creation of an effigy, a symbolic figure that serves as a container for what participants wish to release. Throughout history, cultures around the world have used fire rituals to mark endings, honor transitions, and create space for renewal. In this ritual, the ceremonial burning of the effigy becomes an act of acknowledgment rather than destruction—a visible expression of the human desire to let go of what no longer serves growth and make room for what is waiting to emerge.
Many people are drawn to this experience during periods of transition. A career change, retirement, recovery, the end of a relationship, or simply the feeling that life is asking something new of them.
While the ritual is often offered at the beginning of a new year, its purpose is not tied to the calendar. It speaks to any moment when a person finds themselves standing between what has been and what comes next.
The experience often combines writing, reflection, creative expression, group process, and ritual participation. Participants frequently describe the Effigy Ritual as grounding, emotional, empowering, and unexpectedly freeing.
